The Mix-up’s Quick-read Newsletter, May 4th

Heyo, readers! Happy May the Fourth! Did you know that the iconic sound of a lightsaber in the Star Wars movies was created by combining the hum of an idling film projector and the feedback generated by passing a microphone near a television set playing the projector sound? Now that’s some serious DIY sound engineering! May the Fourth be with you, and welcome to this week’s edition of The Mix Up!

Cultural

So, what’s new in the entertainment industry?  Well, a new Hunger Games prequel movie is set to hit theaters on November 17th. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes follows a young Coriolanus Snow, the villain from the original series, as he mentors a tribute from District 12. Who woulda thought Snow could be, somewhat of a nice guy?

However, if you’re looking for some entertainment that’s less fictional, check out McGregor Forever on Netflix starting May 17th. Be warned, the trailer begins with graphic footage of McGregor breaking his leg. But hey, it’s worth watching to get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the greatest mixed martial arts stars on the planet as he takes on the most important battle of his career.

Well, folks, it looks like oil prices are taking a nosedive again. And why, you may ask? Well, apparently some politicians in the good ol’ US of A are talking about ways to avoid a debt default, and investors are preparing for more rate hikes. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have no idea what any of that means. I mean, I know what debt is, but what’s a default? And why are we hiking rates? Is there a scenic view we’re trying to reach?

Also, this week, leaders from around the world are attending the World Economic Forum’s Growth Summit 2023 in Geneva. The focus is on discussing and shaping a future of work that is inclusive, sustainable, and equitable. Experts from diverse sectors, including business, government, civil society, academia, and international organizations, have been discussing these topics over the past two days. I’m sure they’ll come up with some fantastic ideas that will change the world. Tune in next week to hear more about the insights our elites will have come up with.

Political

Well, well, well, it looks like Hunter Biden is in a bit of a sticky situation, isn’t he? The son of the President of the United States found himself in an Arkansas court for a paternity case, and the mother of his child is not happy with him. She accused him of ignoring court orders requiring him to turn over records about his finances, and now she wants him held in contempt and sent to jail.

I mean, come on, Hunter, you’re the son of the President, and you can’t even comply with court orders? It’s a good thing that DNA test established “with scientific certainty” that you’re the father of the child, or else this could’ve been a real Maury Povich episode.

All jokes aside, it’s important to remember that Hunter Biden is innocent until proven guilty, and we should let the legal system do its job.
